Tractor-Trailer Fire Shuts Down I-81 South Near PA/MD Border: PennDOT

Interstate 81 South has fully reopened in Franklin County after a tractor-trailer fire shut down the roadway Friday evening, PennDOT announced.

The fire occurred between Exit 14 (Wayne Avenue) and Exit 10 (PA-914/Marion) just after 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, initially closing all southbound lanes, according to PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler.

Crews worked to offload the trailer’s contents into another truck before clearing the scene just after 10:30 p.m. Details about what the trailer was carrying have not been released.

The roadway reopened to traffic late Friday night, Schreffler confirmed.
